Athlete’s foot

SYMPTOMS

Fungal infections are among the most frequent skin diseases, with athlete’s foot being the most common. It affects areas between toes, the top of the foot, the sole, and the heels. The disease is accompanied by a fungal condition of the sole, secondary bacterial infections, skin maceration, and persistent itching. The skin cracks and flakes off, foot nails become thick and brittle, they break easily, change colour and lose their lustre.

The infection develops as a result of excessive sweating and wearing non-air permeable footwear, especially made of plastic. Athlete’s foot spreads by contact with an infected person and with infected places and objects, such as towels, flip-flops and shower mats.

Whether the infection appears or not, depends on individual susceptibility and immunity, as well as foot hygiene.

Athlete’s foot should be treated externally, by means of antifungal products, both those in free distribution and those accessible by prescription only.

 

ATHLETE’S FOOT PREVENTION

It is in the summer that we are especially susceptible to athlete’s foot. However, we can avoid infection if we maintain the basic standards of hygiene, such as using products that reduce perspiration and thoroughly drying the spaces between toes after bath or shower.

Once you have dried your feet, apply products that prevent athlete’s foot. We recommend ACERIN FUNGI Cream, which not only fights the infection but also cares for your feet and has a pleasant smell.  As far as sprays are concerned, ACERIN FUNGI is an excellent solution, which leaves a fresh scent on your feet.

Apply antifungal talc or deodorant on the inside of your footwear. We recommend ACERIN KOMFORT or ACERIN TALC, both of which have antifungal and deodorising properties, which guarantee foot comfort and safety.

Keep your feet dry, change your socks frequently, choose air-permeable footwear. Take your own flip-flops when going to a sauna or a swimming pool and never lend them to anyone.
